The Colombian vaccine company VaxThera will be the first to join the Torre Juana space to work on the development of biotechnological technologies applied to human and veterinary vaccines. This makes it the first company to settle in the pharmaceutical pole, whose creation was announced during the visit of Dr. Gabriel Capitelli, founder of the Vacsyne consulting group, which focuses on biological pharmaceutical products and biotechnology. This incorporation materializes the collaboration plan that was being finalized and marks the first milestone in the construction of the biomedical innovation ecosystem in Alicante.

Signing of the MOU between VaxThera, Vacsyne, and Torre Juana IA Hub

The arrival of VaxThera directly responds to the roadmap outlined in the report «Towards a Digital and Global Human and Animal Health,» which was presented to Dr. Capitelli during his previous visit. This strategic document proposes the development of a Pharmaceutical Pole for biological and biotechnological products based in Alicante, with the objective of linking technology, health, and sustainability under an open innovation model.

In a context where the European market for the prevention of human and animal infectious diseases exceeds 20 billion euros annually, Alicante positions itself as a strategic node capable of connecting science, business, and technology from the Mediterranean with Europe and Latin America. The incorporation of VaxThera demonstrates the viability of this collaborative model and the hub’s ability to attract globally competitive companies in the fields of vaccines and biotechnology.

A Pioneering Ecosystem in Digital Health

The installation of VaxThera in Torre Juana and Alicante will allow for advancement in the application of emerging technologies such as advanced artificial intelligence, blockchain, and data science to the development and production of vaccines and other biologicals. This technological convergence represents a significant advantage in optimizing processes and improving global health security.

European and Latin American Projection

With VaxThera as the first established company, the vision of Alicante and Torre Juana IA Hub to become a center of reference in digital human and animal health and production is consolidated. The Alicante biopharmaceutical pole aims to connect the most globally competitive companies in this field, facilitating their establishment in Europe and promoting cooperation with universities, startups, and public bodies.

During the stay of VaxThera’s founders and executives in Alicante , Jorge Osorio, Juan Pablo Hernández, and Gabriel Capitelli (Vacsyne), promoter of the Biopharmaceutical Pole alongside Torre Juana IA Hub, they were received in several working meetings by the General Directorate of the Regional Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Innovation, and Commerce, Juan José Cortés; the President of the Port of Alicante, Luis Rodriguez; at the Alicante City Council by the General Directorate of Employment, Business Promotion, and New Economy, Vicente Seguí; and at the University of Alicante by the Director of the Science Park, Esteban Pelayo, the Director of the Knowledge Transfer Secretariat, José Luís Todolí, and the Vice-Rector for Transfer, Innovation, and Scientific Outreach, María Jesús Pastor.

Likewise, VaxThera held working meetings at Torre Juana IA HUB with experts on various issues regarding European research funds, intellectual property matters (Manuel Desantes), and researchers from the UA (University of Alicante) and UMH (Miguel Hernández University). A significant part of VaxThera’s interest focuses on the application of AI in the field of vaccines and new drugs (1MillionBot Group). This strategic commitment places Alicante on the European map of biopharmaceutical innovation and opens a path for collaboration with both European and Latin American projection, key regions for the development and commercialization of solutions in vaccinology and biotechnology. The incorporation of VaxThera is the first step in a transformative project that aims to position the Mediterranean ecosystem as a future health innovation hub.
